Hey there, I’m Melanie—a therapist here at Red Bridge Counselling.

Let me share my story and therapy approach so you can get to know me better.

How I Became a Therapist 

Having a background as a teacher laid the foundation for my therapy journey. During my time in the classroom, I discovered a genuine passion for connecting with students and helping them navigate their personal struggles. 

Through these meaningful interactions, I realized my true calling: to dedicate my life to helping others. And so, I became a therapist. 

Every day, I am grateful for the opportunity to engage in this fulfilling work, supporting individuals like you on their path to healing, growth, and self-discovery.

My Approach to Therapy

I work with a diverse range of clients facing various challenges, such as depression, anxiety, significant life changes, relationship issues, and trauma. 

I draw from a well-rounded set of therapeutic methods tailored to your unique needs to provide you with the best support possible.

Here’s a glimpse into the approaches we can explore together:

  1. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): By incorporating eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps process and integrate distressing memories. Through this structured therapy, clients often experience reduced emotional distress and gain a fresh perspective on themselves and their experiences.
  2. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT empowers you to recognize and modify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours contributing to emotional distress. By challenging negative thinking and implementing healthier coping mechanisms, you can develop adaptive ways of responding to life’s challenges.
  3. Mindfulness: Cultivating present-moment awareness and nonjudgmental acceptance of your thoughts, feelings, and experiences; mindfulness allows you to enhance your overall well-being and build resilience in the face of stress and adversity.
  4. Narrative Therapy: Through exploring and rewriting the stories we tell ourselves about our lives, we can uncover alternative perspectives and empower you to construct a more positive and empowering life story. Together, we’ll examine the narratives that shape your identity and experiences, opening doors to personal transformation.
  5. Solution-Focused Therapy: This approach explores and develops practical solutions to your problems. Instead of solely dwelling on the difficulties, we’ll highlight your strengths and resources to identify achievable goals that lead to positive change.
